Congratulations to Tim Dolby, Richard and Margaret Alcorn and all involved in Birdline WA and also to Alistair Smith and everyone involved with Birdline ACT.

We are so tantalisingly close to a national rare and unusual sightings system. Exciting times!

I will update the Twitter feeds and the weekly digest to birding-aus in due course to include the two new Birdlines.

    Hi John,

Is it your intention that the sightings reported to the BAWA sightings website be included on the Birdline WA page also?

I would be completely in favour of this as we are now close to a national standard system for the recording of rare and unusual sightings.

The opposite situation should also be considered, where sightings reported to Birdline WA could be included in the BAWA sightings page.

Note, I am not suggesting building any sort of automated system – simply that the moderators of both sites monitor the other site and include the sightings.

    Hi all,

For those of you who may not be aware, Birds Australia WA maintains it’s own sightings page (http://birdswa.org.au/sightings.htm) for the reporting of unusual sightings in WA and the external territories. Sightings can be reported to the BAWA sightings officer at sightings@birdswa.com.au. Sightings sent to this address are added to the page promptly (usually same day) by the sightings officer (currently Alan Collins). The page is also used to prepare the quarterly sightings report for WA Bird Notes, so it would be great if people continued to report sightings through this channel.

We are in the process of upgrading this site and it is hoped that this will be completed in the next month or two

    Cheers, John
