Birdline Central & Southern Queensland Published sightings for the week ending 28 Dec 2014. Sat 27 Dec Dollarbird Coles Creek A flock of between 50 and 70 Dollarbirds travelled through the area. They were circling in a massive flock with several landing for short periods before taking flight again. They moved slowly from the west heading in an easterly direction. Ashley Keune Fri 26 Dec Spiny-cheeked Honeyeater Pacific Harbour Golf Course, Bribie Island, Queensland, AU The highlight this morning was 1 Spiny-cheeked Honeyeater. The bird was quite vocal so alerted its presence. A bit of Striped Honeyeater activity – very vocal – amongst the usual suspects. Photograph of S-c Honeyeater attached. Greg McLachlan Wed 24 Dec Pair of Horsefields Bronze-cuckoos Sandy Camp Road Wetlands Not great photos but worth reporting as Horsefields Bronze-cuckoos are uncommon here and this morning a pair were chasing each other around a tree and calling. Marie Tarrant Asian Dowitcher Osprey House Environmental Centre Asian Dowitcher still upstream of Osprey House on bend of Pine River this morning. Andy Jensen Tue 23 Dec Ground Cuckoo-shrike Boyces Road, Mount Tarampa Two birds flying and one of them feeding on the ground across a paddock with short green grass. Habitat: paddocks with short new grass and scattered low trees including clumps of bloodwoods. Roger Jaensch Freckled Duck pond near Lake Atkinson, Lockyer Valley At least two birds feeding in the large pond near the northern side of Lake Atkinson, viewed from Atkinson Dam Road, looking north.
