Birdlife International (HBW) Version 9 – part 2

Birdlife International (HWB) has recently updated their list (now Version
9), I have been slowly working through the list.

Changes that I had previously reported are:

a) Non-passarines remain substantially unchanged from Version 8
b) Passerines have been completely reordered with at least 25 new genus
being added that effect Australia. Most of these are in line with IOC.
c) some of the changes that effect Australia are
– Blue-faced Honeyeater has been split. The White-quilled Honeyeater (Top
End and Kimberley) has been added
– Crested Shrike-tit has been split into Northern, Western and Eastern
– Spotted Catbird is now Black-eared Catbird, but has not been split.
– Quail-thrushs, Papuan Pitta, Tropical Scrubwren, Western Fieldwren,
Gilbert’s Honeyeater, Western Grasswren now follows IOC
– Golden-backed Honeyeater split from Black-chinned

Further changes that I have detected are

– Silver-backed Butcherbird, Paperbark Flycatcher and Norfolk Robin now
follow IOC
– Kimberley Flyrobin has been split from Lemon-bellied Flyrobin
– Crimson Finch has been split into Black-bellied Crimson Finch and
White-Bellied Crimson Finch
