Noting all the recent Barn Owl reports we wish to report finding a recently hit (i.e probably late the previous night / early morning) Barn Owl beside the Chiltern-Rutherglen Rd on 8th Sept. There is an area about 4km before Rutherglen where there is what appears to be flood water on both sides of the road (at least 17 Australian Grebes, Yellow Spoonbills several duck species) and the owl was on the LH verge just in front of where we pulled up near the S end of the water. A beautiful specimen and a great shame; it appeared to have had a head-on collision with a vehicle.
