I heard an unusual call at dawn this morning. I live near a large woodland area, but this unfamiliar call sounded like something I’d expect in a rainforest area. It was a monotonous chew-chew repeated on a two second cycle for at least 5 minutes.
it doesn’t match my memory of the cadence of either Noisy Miners or Striated Pardalotes. Would anyone have suggestions as to what species might be making such a call in SEQ?

Yes, I’d say you are right. I have occasionally seen them in Toohey Forest.

I agree. I instantly thought of Eastern Yellow Robin. I have heard the call at other times of day as well. Cheers, Merrilyn

Hi Laurie,
Possibly Eastern Yellow Robin? They have a two-note “chew chew” call that they do at dawn. I know they occur in Fig Tree Pocket and Oxley, so your area isn’t too much of a stretch for them.
