Did a seawatch at Garie Beach in Royal NP on Oct 24, during a very wet and cold day with low cloud across the sea at times. There were hundreds of Short-tailed Shearwater passing quite close by, and these included two aberrant birds:
The first resembled a miniature gannet, with white head, neck and forewing merging spottily into a dark hindwing. The second had a white head and quite greyish plumage, initially giving mea bit of a start, but size, shape, jizz and underwing were exactly as congeners.
There were several Flutton’s Shearwaters and a couple of putative Hutton’s, plus one adult Black-browed Albatross, and what looked to be an adult of the Campbell Is (NZ Black-browed) Albatross.
