G’day
For those interested in inner-city birds, I came across the carcass of a Barn Owl on the footpath of Upper Albert St, close to the lower entrance to the Roma St Parklands. It was about 100 metres from the CBD precinct and was probably hit by a car (and placed on the footpath at the base of a tree). Perhaps it was a young bird that made the mistake of chasing a rodent too close to the road.

Fascinating Laurie – theres been a few reports of Tyto in the Brisbane city area and if memory serves me right the suggestion one was a Masked Owl a while back – it just goes to show that even in the heart of the CBD there are such birds who perhaps profit from good rodent numbers which is often the way in cities. cheers David Taylor
