Lake Eyre filling

For those fascinated with Lake Eyre & the ebb&flow of life there, the last few days have seen a masive rainfall in SW Queensland: http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/silo/rain_maps.cgi which as well as good times for Letter-winged Kites should see another pulse of water into Lake Eyre down the Georgina, Eyre & Diamantina.

The YC Lake Eyre status page http://www.lakeeyreyc.com/Status/latest.html has a nice Modis satellite photo http://www.lakeeyreyc.com/Status/NealesFlood20110211.jpg of a flood from the NW into Lake Eyre a few weeks ago.

If you have more patience&time than me you can track the flows yourself via Modis satellite images: http://rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/subsets/index.php?subset=AERONET_Birdsville
