Not quite: Leica, through Adeal in Melbourne, (their distributor in Aus) have always honoured the warranty on mine. I told them I bought the bins at Eagle Optics in Madison, Wisconsin and there has never been an issue.
When you buy quality optics, it is a WORLD-WiDE warranty.
I have had to pay postage down to Melbourne to Adeal but after that they have covered everything including return postage. Mine have been back to Germany twice now in 18 years or so….
No qualms, just great service from Adeal and Leica and I suspect all other manufacturers are the same such as Zeiss and Swarovski..

Actually you DO have warranty. The problem is that if you buy overseas for most brands the local agent or distributor will not honour the overseas warranty. What this means is that you must send your goods back to the country of origin for warranty work. I know that some manufacturers will honour warranty on products bought overseas – Apple are certainly doing so with the iPad, for example. I know that Nikon Australia doesn’t honour warranty on overseas purchased goods. I’m unsure about Leica and Swarovski.
