photos of Kookaburra and Tiger Snake

Greetings,

A few days ago, I was sent one of these photos by a friend of mine, who had in turn received them from someone else.

Thinking that Birding-Aus readers might be interested in seeing them, I tracked down the original photographer to obtain permission to post the links.

They were taken near Denmark, in SW WA in late December 2010 by Fremantle-based Sam Blight – musician, graphic designer and boomerang maker.

It’s sobering to think what impact Laughing Kookaburras must have had, and continue to have, on SW WA, and Tasmania, regions to which they are not native.

I have heard stories of at least one rural property in Tasmania, where an effort to reduce Kookaburra numbers has resulted in a huge increase in the number of small birds.

Cheers

Philip
