Christmas Island reports

Dear Birders Thank you to Mike Carter for very comprehensive report; this comes at perfect timing as I have just (finally) booked a week visit for end of May, (from UK via Malaysia). Not wanting to open up the debate about listing on CI again but for those twitchers and listers (me included) maybe someone might want to make a guess as to likelihood of the vagrant bitterns staying.  Do they depart from the island ie migrate back north or do they ‘stay’ for ever?  Are the records of vagrants from recent years readily available to view on a database?

Also has anyone tried any mini pelagic trips just off shore, may be with dive/fishing boats – I believe Matsudaira’s Storm-Petrel and White-faced Storm-Petrel might be a possibility though I’m not sure if end of May is suitable.

Thank you for any advice
