Hi, Apparently a number of species engage in sunbathing (or sunning). It was reported for a group of regent bowerbirds in Australian Bird Watcher Vol 17. Up to eight individuals at a time were seen with fully open out-stretched wings, fanned tail and head tilted to one side. I have read somewhere that sunning may raise body temperature to speed up digestion in certain cases and/or diets.
Regards
Ralph Reid
