Hello birders,
For whoever is keeping track of WTNT, we observed about 10-12 today (just now) at O’Reilly’s Rainforest Resort. The details are captured in eBird checklist at this link.
We studied them carefully to eliminate similar Fork-tailed and House Swift. If there is any other very large, long-winged swift species we should consider, please let me know, as we are utterly unfamiliar with WTNT.
The “giss” for us was a swift much larger, and more soaring flight style, than any we’ve ever seen in the States. Field marks described in the checklist are consistent with WTNT and eliminate Fork-tailed.
