Cruel Collaring of birds

Hello Peter

Crime Stoppers Victoria is asking the public to report information after a number of native birds have been sighted in the Wantirna area with illegal collars affixed to them.
The birds, including Ravens and Magpies, have been spotted on the corner of Pach Road and Newman Road. The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) is currently working with Wildlife Victoria volunteers to capture the birds and remove the collars.

In Victoria, there are various offences under The Wildlife Act 1975 (Vic) that relate to molesting, disturbing and marking protected wildlife. It is also an offence under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1986 to do an act with the result that unreasonable pain or suffering is caused, or is likely to be caused, to an animal.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or DELWP on 136 186

Thank you.
