For those interested or visiting Point Danger for the first time…
I visited the Australasian Gannet Colony at Point Danger/Portland Vic today around 4pm
Decent amount of adults of course on mainland and Lawrence rocks further out…and immature and much younger chicks too on mainland.
To the right hand side of the fence I stood as the birds circled out from the breeding site and straight above my head…amazing.
I heard a Rufous Bristlebird close but no sighting.
Also…a bit concerning really….
A high fence is in place far back from the colony which is good but…part of the fence is broken in an area that’s not obvious when you park…and would allow anyone or ‘Fox’ that they’re trying to keep out, to get in anyway.
I’m wondering who should I contact to let them know that the fence is not fox proof or human proof even..?
No sighting of a Cape Gannet breeding as I’ve heard happens there. I probably would have needed a spotting scope once again to see one anyway.
