Birdpedia – Australia – Weekly Digest

The following is a digest of Sightings Reported on Birdpedia for the period Monday, November 2, 2015 to Sunday, November 8, 2015: Area: SA Location: Black Point, Y.P. Painted Button-quail (Turnix varius) (1) One female was seen, plus some fresh platelets, in my garden area at Black Point. Interestingly I saw one near this place last year on October 2nd. Reported by: Margaret Tiller on Friday, November 6, 2015 ——————————————— Date: Friday, November 6, 2015 Location: Port Clinton and Clinton CP Eastern Curlew (Numenius madagascariensis) (1) A group of 40 seen initially at the beach at the end of Cumberland Street. They were among the small mangroves, were disturbed and flew north to the next small inlet. They then flew back to the mangrove area, before flying north again. They were seen again at the parking bay off the highway, this time standing in the water. Grey-tailed Tattler (Heteroscelus brevipes) (1) 3 birds seen at Cumberland Street beach with Greenshanks. Common Greenshank (Tringa nebularia) (1) 12 birds roosting at Cumberland St beach. Red-necked Stint (Calidris ruficollis) (1) Total of 20 seen across both locations Sharp-tailed Sandpiper (Calidris acuminata) (1) About 8 birds some quite brightly coloured still Reported by: Richard Woodland on Friday, November 6, 2015 ——————————————— Date: Saturday, November 7, 2015 Location: Magazine Rd Wetlands Sharp-tailed Sandpiper (Calidris acuminata) (20) Mainly in the top pond in front of the bird hide. Photo attached Wood Sandpiper (Tringa glareola) (150) All over but mainly in the pond in front of the bird hide. Photo attached Whiskered Tern (Chlidonias hybrida) (30) Some flying and feeding, others in pond in front of the bird hide. Photo attached Singing Honeyeater (Lichenostomus virescens) (2) One adult and one young. Photo attached Great Egret (Casmerodius albus) (1) Just the one spotted today. Photo attached Australasian Grebe (Tachybaptus novaehollandiae) (4) Four sighted only but there were many more Hoary Headed.
