Hi bird fams, It’s time. The Victorian Twitchathon is back! And we’re aiming to help save the Mallee Emu-wren and our mallee birds! This year we want to raise money for research on these unique birds (see http://www.birdlife.org.au/projects/threatened-mallee-birds) and the Mallee IBAs. As you know, the Mallee IBAs are important bird areas that are in danger (see http://birdlife.org.au/ibas-in-danger). So, it’s time to dust off those binos, polish up those rusty bird identification skills, consult your birding friends, and form a twitchathon team! Get your entries in for the 2015 Twitchathon now! The Birdlife Victoria twitchathon will be held on the weekend of 7 and 8 November 2015! There will be two events in the 2015 Victorian Twitchathon, a 24-hr race and an 8-hr race. In the 24-hr event you can either combine a couple of casual days birdwatching and have some fun. Or alternatively be more competitive and do a lot of traveling to cover as many habitat types as possible to find as many species as you can within a 24-hr period, which is also great fun. The 8-hr event is slightly more sedate event where you can count up the number of birds you’ve seen in a casual days birding, or actively try to identify as many bird species as possible within an 8-hr period. Whatever way you choose to run a twitchathon, remember all the money raised through sponsorship will go to a very important cause, our threatened mallee birds. Entering is easy. Simply contact me and I will provide you with details about how to register. I can be reached on: (M) 0448801674 (if I don’t answer, please leave a message), or (H) (03) 9489 3830. You can also email at dolby.timothy@gmail.com. For further details about the event can be found on Birdlife Victoria web page: http://birdlife.org.au/locations/all-victoria-statewide/victorian-twitchathon Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. So, for the benefit of the threatened mallee birds and the chance to have some fantastic birding fun, get involved! Cheers, Tim Dolby

Hi Pete, no, thought I’d keep it simple. If someone wanted to do one, fine. Or they could just do a 24hr, but do it in one spot BTW are you interested in participating – I’m planning on doing the 8hr and might need someone in team. Cheers, Tim
