Have just been asked by a colleague for the collective noun for Currawongs (ie ‘murder’ of crows, ‘gaggle’ of geese etc….) All suggestions gratefully received…. I have come across a few on the interweb, the ones I like are, a carolling and a slaughter. There seems that there is no standard collective noun. The art of venery seems to be dying out. Carl Clifford

Maybe there isn’t one, as many of the others have British origins?

Thanks for all the great ‘currawong’ suggestions, I particularly like “cacophony’, ‘crisis’ and ‘catastrophe’ but Vicki’s ‘chorus’ is a real understatement! Has anybody ever seen a definitive word or phrase in print? Macquarie dictionary perhaps? My aunt, who visited from Germany from time to time, pointed out that, in comparison with the birds of Europe, currawongs actually don’t sing – they just talk. On that basis, I would suggest a Meeting of Currawongs.
