Negative news Beach Stone Curlew

Mark et al,

There was negative news reported for the Beach Stone Curlew on the afternoon of 4/11 as well. This was posted on http://birdo.wildiaries.com via http://twitter.com/birdorarity.

You can also post *immediate* updates to http://birdo.wildiaries.com via Twitter by including @birdorarity in any tweet. Most phones these days have a Twitter app or function and it’s just a case of posting something like “negative news, Beach Stone Curlew, Sydney @birdorarity”. The update appears within seconds. So if you or others visit http://twitter.com/birdorarity you’ll get these updates in real time as well.

We are also currently providing a FREE service of SMS alerts for rarities (for at least the next few months). This is for when a rarity first turns up in your area, or any national rarity. SEND US YOUR MOBILE PHONE NUMBERS AND WE WILL ADD YOU TO THE LIST. Note, it’s only serious regional or national rarities that we’re currently alerting for.

This sort of immediacy can make all the difference – in fact, by the time we’d found out about the Beach Stone Curlew and alerted people, it was about an hour too late. All the Sydney birders dipped that afternoon – if we can get messages out quicker, it can help greatly.

HOW DO YOU LET US KNOW ABOUT BIRDS? One way is by contacting us is by calling 02 6100 4425. It’s a local call number that goes to an answering machine and we are emailed. And don’t worry, all the information still eventually ends up on birding-aus, Eremaea etc. The only difference is, you get a direct message, which makes it slightly more likely you’ll see the bird before it flies off!

All the best,

Simon.
