Life on the Reef (ABC)

Hi all I’d imagine everyone has seen the ABC’s previews for the series *Life on the Reef* which begins this coming Sunday, 1st March. It looks like it will be an excellent three part series. And I’m particularly keen to see it as it will feature, in one of the episodes (not sure which), the breeding seabird survey in the Capricornia Cays that I was involved with in January last year (2014), in which we surveyed Wedge-tailed Shearwaters, Black Noddies and Brown Boobies. The survey was coordinated by Queensland Parks and Wildlife, but included volunteer support from four members of the Australasian Seabird Group (ASG – a special interest sub group of Birds Australia), and a bunch of young volunteers through an organisation called Wild Mob. I was one of the ASG volunteers. I have no idea how much time might be devoted to the seabird survey segment, or how much detail it will go into, but I can feel comfortably certain that my Warholian 15 minutes will be well short of that. They may have included a very short bit of me being interviewed, but it’s just as likely that my cameo appearance will be limited to being prostrate on the ground, red-faced, covered in sweat and dirt, with my arm at full-stretch down a shearwater burrow! Anyway, just thought I’d throw it out there; and also let you know that following the survey I posted five posts on my blog about various aspects of the survey and our time spent on the reef. Some of you may find them of interest. And don’t forget to tune in to ABC at 7:30 on Sunday! The posts are: Capricornia Cays Survey Holiday – 1. Arrival Capricornia Cays Survey Holiday – 2.
