Greetings Carl I know that house-bound feeling! In a few hours time [at 0900 hours] I’m scheduled for a small surgical procedure on my right foot which, according to the surgeon [if he makes it this time], should put a crimp into my scheduled training for the 2016 Olympic sprints! I wish you a speedy recovery. It was wonderfull seeing the various ‘saurs brought to life. Especially loved the little bugger negotiating the shelving. Not much chop on the BBC. Only the usual handful of species. I am somewhat housebound, for medical reasons, which is quite frustrating. Mind wants to get out, but body won’t comply. Then again in the sixties, when I contracted golden staph pneumonia, and along with that septicaemia and encephalitis, I was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital. They fought like heroes to save me. Mind you some years later when I turned up injured after falling from my horse, they missed my fractured pelvis, internal injuries and concussion, and sent me home! Ah, the good old Australian medical system. Perhaps you should consider having it done in Singapore. Much better option. I came down with appendicitis in Penang some years back. I put off doing anything about it till I got to Singapore, where I ended up in S’pore General Hospital. I turned up at A&E at 13:30 and was in my room, minus appendix at 19:00. It was the only hospital I have stayed in that had a TV channel devoted to the food menu. My first meal was an excellent Nasi Lemak. I did not want to leave. Better luck next time, Carl Clifford

Julian I’m really sorry to hear that. In 2000 I was to undergo urgent surgery for suspected ovarian cancer (same disease killed my sister), and was rushed to Adelaide. I ended up cooling my heels there for a month! Do you have anyone to advocate for you? Greetings Denise & Carl Thanks for the concern but at around 0800 hours this morning, an hour prior to the scheduled surgical procedure, the receptionist telephoned to say that as the nurse was unavailable the surgery was cancelled. That makes five cancellations since late January. Trouble is, it plays havoc with birding plans. Cheers Julian http://www.birdingsouthburnett.com Twitter: @osprey00

My sympathies to you both. After surviving golden staph pneumonia as a teenager I now have scarred lungs and suffer from recurrent lung infections. I can usually manage to get out unless it turns into pleurisy or double pneumonia. However, the biggest barrier at the moment is study!
