G’day everyone, I just thought I’d get in another plug for this talk. Tickets are selling steadily, but the flip-side of getting a swish venue is a much higher cost – I’m still some way from breaking even so it’d be good to get a packed house if possible. John’s talk will detail his many years in the desert searching for the species, culminating in his eventual success. The Melbourne audience will get to see photographs of the bird that haven’t appeared in any publications and a short piece of video footage that John shot. The talk also introduces many interesting finds and experiences that John had in the years leading up to the rediscovery. I’m sure everyone who has seen this talk interstate will attest to the feeling of witnessing something truly historic. It’s a must-see for any Australian birdo and John is an engaging speaker. The talk will be at the Deakin Edge at Federation Square on Sunday 1st March. This is close to public transport and has paid parking next door. Tickets can be purchased online and will be available for collection at the door from 6pm on the evening. There are a few nice bars and cafes close by so you’ll have time to wet your whistle before the doors open at 6:45 for a 7pm start. John has promised me that he’ll be able to get his talk wrapped up by 9pm so they don’t have to send in the security to kick us out of the auditorium. This will take into account some time for questions at the end of John’s presentation. You can purchase tickets at this website: http://www.chriswatson.com.au/shop/night-parrot-presentation-ticket I hope to see you there. Well done Janine. You’ll not regret it. John is a great character and the search was and continues to be a ‘boy’s own adventure’ type enterprise. I saw John’s presentation at Winton and he held the attention of an audience which was not birder centric captive. I would see it again if I had the chance. Good on ya David, I agree. I’m sure there’s a huge investment in time and money on Chris and John’s part here, and it would be crazy if Australia’s largest and most active birding community didn’t make the biggest turnout! In fact, if we get a huge turnout it might be interesting to media. More publicity for the birds! Does anyone have any good media contacts they can share this with? I’m going, and bringing friends, staff and family. Hope to meet you all there! Janine Sent from my Motorola RAZR™ M on the Telstra Next G™ Network David Stowe < davidstowe@optusnet.com.au> wrote:

I hope that everyone in Melbourne supports this. I’ve heard heaps of people ask “when is John coming to Melbourne?” so it would be a shame that Chris’ efforts here aren’t rewarded in making this happen. (and particularly if he was out of pocket for it) I went to the original talk in Brisbane and then again when John came to Sydney and the presentation was alot more polished and more info/photos etc. So even if you went to Brisbane I would recommend going again!
