Birdline South Australia Weekly Update

Birdline South Australia Published sightings for the week ending 30 Nov 2014. Sun 30 Nov Pectoral Sandpiper Greenfields–Magazine Rd Wetlands Bird still present as previously reported , about 50m NE of bird hide, also good numbers of Wood Sandpiper at least 6 birds present. William Brooker Fri 28 Nov Pectoral Sandpiper, Lathams Snipe Magazine Road Wetlands, Dry Creek one of each Jim Allen, Richard Allen et al Semipalmated plover Pelican Point, Carpenters Rocks At 6am this morning at high tide we had excellent and extended views of the bird feeding along the shore line. It was located 200 metres west of the point near a single black rock on the beach near the boat ramp. Unperturbed by our presence it came within 20 metres of us. When it eventually flushed it flew off with a small flock of stints in a westerly direction. We had not been able to find it the previous evening when the tide was low. Hedley and Irena Earl Mon 24 Nov Hooded Plover Carrickalinga Hooded Plover seen along the beach on Sunday/Monday opposite 50 Gold Coast Drive. Sunday seen on beach right in front of the Car Park. Monday further up the beach around the corner past the Rocks. Only 1 bird seen both days. Lance Peters Semipalmated Plover Pelican Point, Carpenter Rocks Semipalmated Plover see close inshore near yellow and blue beach house. Mark Buckby, Iian Denham and Dave Torr Sun 23 Nov Semipalmated Plover Pelican Point, Carpenters Rocks Finally found at 11.30am after slow wading out towards reef, very active bird compared to the stints and red caps near by. also present many noisy Crested Terns, a hand full of Fairy Terns, two Bar-tailed Godwits and 1 Australian Hobby that scattered the small shorebirds off the seaweed heap Samantha Greiner Semipalmated Plover Pelican Point, Carpenter Rocks The bird was seen by myself and 2 others this morning at 9am. It was situated on a small sandy bank about 200 meters out. It did not flush and was in the company of a flock of Red-capped Plovers. Ben Weston
