After reading the accounts of people in my home State looking for Bush Stone Curlews in the Wimmera, I thought I should relate what happened to me today.
My vehicle was low on fuel so I programmed my GPS to take me to the nearest servo; Caltex on Warburton St, Townsville. When I got there, the servo was long gone and it was just a cyclone fenced vacant lot . . . with 16 Bush Stone Curlews standing or lying about the site. There were another 5 or 6 in a fenced sports ground next to the vacant block.
I think that I have only seen 2 or 3 Bush Stone Curlews before (not in captivity) so it was an amazing sight for me, particularly as they are in a built up area.
Cheers
David

you could knock them over with a stick on Great Keppell Island when I was there last July
Catch a ferry to Magnetic Island and there you will see hundreds throughout the residential areas. Bush Stone-curlew heaven.
