I am travelling to England, Iceland and central Europe in September and would like to purchase an app that will cover these areas, that’s if one is available.
If anyone has used one and can provided some feedback, it would be gratefully received.
Thanks for your help. Karen Donkin ===============================

I second that. It’s a beauty. Photos as well as paintings, songs and calls, eggs and chicks plus all the text from the Handbook. And take the printed Collins Bird Guide (Svensson et al), for when you need to compare several similar birds side by side (apps just don’t do Everything yet). Helen

Hi Karen,
Birds of Northern Europe by BirdGuides is probably the most comprehensive with multiple illustrations, photos, calls and maps covering all the area you need plus text from the Concise Handbook to the birds of the Western Paleartic.
It’s not quite as user-friendly as some of the other apps but has by far the most information and data available.
It has the names of birds in about 15 languages to which might be helpful for when you are out and about – but I don’t think Icelandic is one of them.
Cheers,
Ed

I have found iBird UK to be very useful – paintings, photos, calls, range and similar to options.
Also BirdsUK is a nice little app that has a range of common birds, but what I found useful was its Quiz option where random photos are shown and you have to identify. Good to practice id skills.
These are iPhone apps – not sure about other devices.
