This morning I went to Draper’s Crossing, Bunya Road to the causeway to attempt to photograph Azure Kingfishers that I had seen there yesterday. There were four with two together doing a lot of head dipping and the occasional wing flutter (courting?). Whilst there a bird to my right jumped off the 2 metre high bank into the water, swam about 5 metres across the river, walked along a branch and then disappeared into the long grass. Photos taken excitedly (blurry) ID’d a Lewin’s Rail – black-tipped pink bill, chestnut cap etc.
Whoo!
