While visiting Lamington National Park last week, I was excited when I spotted a bird that I couldn’t immediately recognise. Having spent a lot of time in the park over the last 20 years, it was a long time since I’d seen a new bird there. Alas, it was only a race of a bird I’ve seen in the past; the leucocephala race of the Varied Sitella. I suppose I should be excited about seeing that new race for the first time but somehow it’s not as exciting as a new species for my list.
On the bright side, I did get to tick some new species in central Australia despite not having much time to look.
