Elizabeth,
Yes, well it seems like I lucked-out big time on that one…
Hopefully I’ll catch it next year. haven’t caught up with Chris over the past couple of weeks – how many did you get?
And any day with a Grey falcon before breakfast must be a good one!
Best,
BG

Hi Bob, and all I’d just like to thank you for having to be away the weekend of the Alice Springs Twitchathon, forcing Chris to find another cohort for that great event. I had a wonderful weekend, including seeing a Grey Falcon before breakfast!
It’s a good way for an ‘interstater/out-of-towner’ to do a Twitchathon in foreign territory – pair up with a ‘local’. I did much better and learnt a lot more about the district than bumbling about by myself.
Chris Watson has formidable knowledge of local birds and a range of jobs which enable him to further his knowledge in the course of his work.
The Alice Springs Twitchathon was well organised and a great social event with a BBQ dinner provided at the end of the event. I’d recommend others to travel there for the event or make sure they’re travelling through there when its on in the future.
Sorry I didn’t get to meet you Bob, but I always enjoy your contributions to BAus and the blogs I read on occasions.
Cheers Elizabeth Shaw (finally home on wonderful – when the bikes aren’t around) Phillip Island Victoria
Dear all,
They are a bit slower to get to central Australia – unsure if anyone else has heard/seen them in the Alice so far but I heard my first of the season (and I’ve been away for a few weeks) this morning at 0620 hours. Wonderful, welcome back and looking forward to seeing a lot of you over the summer!
