On a recent trip to the Kimberley we came across an albino Eastern Reef Egret which appears to be resident around the King George Falls area. Anyone travelling to the falls might want to look out for it, it is quite an interesting bird. At first I thought it was simply a white phase reef egret but closer views revealed no pigmentation in the eye, beak or lores and almost completely white legs. It was seen hunting below both ‘halves’ of the falls, standing (quite impressively) on small rock ledges in the sheer vertical cliffs, just above the water.
