no rare petrels but Pygmy Killer Whales

Hi all,

SOSSA pelagics off Wollongong, NSW, this past weekend (22nd/23rd October): Northern hemisphere meets Southern hemisphere: Brown Skua on Saturday, Arctic and Pomarine Jaeger on Sunday. White-fronted Tern on Sunday, (Siberian) Common Terns on both days.

5+ Wandering Albatross, 3 Shy/White-capped Albatross, 10+ Black-browed Albatross, 2 Cape Petrels (australe) Plus the “usual” species, expected in October.

Highlights were the cetaceans: a small pod of Pygmy Killer Whales a large pod of Risso’s Dolphins Short-beaked Common Dolphins Inshore Bottlenose Dolphins and a great Humpback show!

Several Sunfish.

Lowlight: We totally missed out on the great Pterodroma/Procellaria show I was hoping for :-(      See Eden Pelagic report (also 22nd/23rd October)!

Cheers,

Nikolas
