is there a turf war in progress as I found this one of the best features of Birding-Aus.

No – no “turf war” in progress. There is a problem with the posting of the updates from Eremaea by email to birding-aus. The owners and developers of Eremaea have been notified, but are unfortunately away at the moment. I am hopeful that the issue will be resolved shortly.
