Today, 2 Sept 2011, in my continuing quest for more images of Wandering Tattlers and to document their presence in Australia I discovered a Grey-tailed Tattler keeping company with a Wandering Tattler in Wandering Tattler type environment. This is the first time I have seen the two species together and the first time I have seen Grey-tailed Tattler in this location.
The location is Caloundra Head, a purely rock headland, and the principle place where I photograph Wandering Tattlers. In the past 6 years during which I having been photographing Wandering Tattlers I have never seen a Grey-tailed Tattler in the area. Yesterday, 1 Sept 2011, I was at the same location where I saw the same Wandering Tattler in the company of another Wandering Tattler however, today that second Wandering Tattler was not to be seen.

Caloundra Head is sometimes called Wickham Head and is shown on the Sunshine Coast Map 100 in the Brisbane UBD Refidex at R16.
The usual safety warning: Take care while traversing the headland as the rocks can be slippery when wet and some rocks can be loose even if they look large and secure. Keep a lookout for the dark morph Eastern Reef Egret with one foot, the white morph Eastern Reef Egret, the Striated Heron and the Sooty Oystercatchers. Currently there is still a very good chance of also seeing Australasian Gannets coursing up and down the length of the headland. High tide is the best time to see the Gannets as they seem to follow near the line of the tide.
Photographers should be aware that the weekend means a steady stream of humans walking dogs off leash in contravention of the council bylaws. It can be a little disturbing to have two large dogs sneak up behind oneself while concentrating on a couple of tattlers through a viewfinder.
