Fairy wrens

Thx Stephen. The 3 local species are Superb, Variegated, & Red-backed. All 3 are seen at the GOMA end. I think the group/s you’ll see all along Southbank are Superbs.

Denizens of the inner city [cf “Scrubwrens in inner west Sydney”]

Along Southbank in inner Brisbane the 3 local Fairy-Wren spp. live in shrubs & grasses among the concrete & crowds. Some years ago during a small study of sightings histories for these birds, I found it notable that correlating records/maps showed no cuckoos in this location.

I was with the family, so did not have . . . → Read More: Flame robins/Scarlet robins

Scrubwrens in inner west Sydney

Hi everyone

I live in Dulwich Hill along the light rail / Greenway corridor. There are a resident pair of White-browed scrubwren living in the adjacent bushcare site and nearby weedy thickets. The pair frequently visit my small garden to use the birdbath and to feed amongst my thick plantings. I know there are probably . . . → Read More: Scrubwrens in inner west Sydney

A Mysterious Grassbird

Dear List,

My wife and I recently took a trip to the Top End. We did Darwin to Kakadu to Pine Creek and back to Darwin. We saw about 60 “lifers” and around 85 in total. For those interested in the total list we saw (some of my favourites are: Black Bittern, Red-tailed Black Cockatoo, . . . → Read More: A Mysterious Grassbird
