Birding-Aus Digest, Vol 33, Issue 27

Hi, just visiting family at Gold Coast, Qld. Just visited Albert Park at Rialto a suburb Bundall. Atop a tall tower in a nesting pair of Sea Eagles. We observed an active pair but could not see any detail as it was far off and we did not have binoculars. My reason for the email . . . → Read More: Birding-Aus Digest, Vol 33, Issue 27

Sea Eagle chick hatch

The White-bellied Sea-Eagle pair nesting at Sydney Olympic Park have hatched their first chick (SE-17) for the 2016 season. The second egg (SE-18) has piped as of 9:00am Saturday morning. Hopefully SE-18 will hatch quickly reducing the time between the chicks development. One of the aspects we are studying is delayed incubation and on . . . → Read More: Sea Eagle chick hatch

Sounds of spring

Wood Ducks have been cackling on chimney tops, and for the last week there have been splendid evening concerts from male Blackbirds. One beside the drive, the other out the front – each whistles beautifully, then pauses, then the other puts in his contribution – the two songs differ considerably though the voice remains similar. . . . → Read More: Sounds of spring

Nardello’s Lagoon

We passed by this water body recently. It is marked on many maps (and is an eBird Hotspot) but I couldn’t work out how to access it. All possible access points seemed to be private, largely due to biosecurity concerns on banana farms. I asked a couple of local folk, one of whom wasn’t aware . . . → Read More: Nardello’s Lagoon
