Hi everyone, Yesterday (31st Aug) the first returning Wood Sandpiper at Herdsman Lake, Perth appeared at ‘Kakadu’ (a shallow bay just west of the wildlife centre that can attract an abundance of wetland birds). This species seems to be the first migratory shorebird to show up at the lake each year, probably because the winter rains cause water levels to be too high for most other species. Last year, the first Wood Sandpiper arrived September 7th, so a bit earlier this year. I’m betting a Common Greenshank will be next.
