By Birding-Aus, on April 9th, 2017 Good morning Birding Aussers
Thank you all very much for the congratulatory messages. They’ve made my day.
John Harris has pointed out that the details on my talk weren’t included in my email. It contained a great cartoon by Des Campbell, compatriot of the one and only Bo Beolens, and features both birders and crocodiles. . . . → Read More: PhD: NT Field Naturalists’ talk
By Birding-Aus, on April 8th, 2017 Evening all,
Interesting with the records of Pacific Swifts today, I saw 3 Needletails (very briefly, may have been more but I was driving) at Mount Stanley Scenic Reserve in northern Victoria this afternoon. By Alan Gillanders, on April 8th, 2017 Greetings,
A guest reported seeing nearly one thousand Pacific Swifts streaming south over the Cairns Esplanade while watching from his hotel balcony. This was either the 3rd or 4th of April. I believe him to be a reliable observer.
Regards,
Alan

By Birding-Aus, on April 7th, 2017 Hi all,
Broome Bird Observatory has been sent a photo (third-hand) of a Nicobar Pigeon taken somewhere on the Dampier Peninsula near One Arm Point, north of Broome. The timestamp on the photo suggests it was taken 29th March (thanks Rohan Clarke). No further details at this stage but we’re chasing it up. By Birding-Aus, on April 7th, 2017 Actually yesterday’s post from Kirri Hardy was about a Spangled Drongo mimicking a Pied Butcherbird, not the other way around…….
Yes Grey Shrike-thrush is a good mimic, as are Drongos.

By Birding-Aus, on April 7th, 2017 Thinking about yesterday’s post from Kirri Hardy on a Pied Butcherbird mimicking a Spangled Drongo… I have a bush block adjacent to a birders’ haunt well known to Victorians—Rise and Shine Bush Reserve. My neighbour’s block is a Noisy Miner hangout (with the consequent reduction in bird species diversity) and every time I hear a . . . → Read More: Grey Shrike-thrush mimickry
