Edith falls

Hey all ? It’s been a few years since I was at Edith Falls. Could someone remind me of any spots on the way into Edith that I might chance upon some Hooded Parrots and Gouldian finches? Can only try Thanks heaps Kirri

IOC7.1 has changed Red-bellied Pitta

Has anyone noticed that the latest IOC list, version 7.1, has split Red-bellied Pitta, Erythropitta erythrogaster? The common name for Red-bellied Pitta has disappeared. The scientific name now belongs to Phillipine Pitta and the bird in Australia is now the Papuan Pitta, Erythropitta macklotii (sub-species digglesi).

Regards,

Tania

John Clarke

Sad to hear of the passing of John Clarke. I’d long been a fan of his unique brand of satire, first encountering him as Fred Dagg (using the classic intro “errr, yeah g’day”) on 3-RRR radio in the late 70’s or early 80’s. Of course he was already well known in his native New Zealand . . . → Read More: John Clarke

Rufous Fantail

and 2 Willy Wagtails running around my inner west Sydney back yard and flitting about without a care at 2pm. Too chilly and damp for cats too pose a danger. Bit of aggro between the two Willies. The sparrows kept a lookout though. Sent from my iPhone

John Clarke

Sad to notice that John Clarke, birder and noted satirist, seems to have passed away while hiking in Victoria’s Gariwerd NP (a.k.a the Grampians).

John was occasionally seen birding at the WTP. Russell and I met him once ticking a Baillon’s Crake.

That’s sad, and certainly unexpected.

“A reputable guide for an outing to the Dandenongs” (Victoria)

I have been asked by a group of four soon to be visiting older serious South African birders if I know of “a reputable guide for an outing to the Dandenongs” for a day outing in mid-May.

Would anyone who meets the criteria like to volunteer (or offer their services), or alternatively provide the name . . . → Read More: “A reputable guide for an outing to the Dandenongs” (Victoria)
