Any father and child want to join a duo to Terrick this weekend?

Hi,

My son and I are planning to drive up to Terrick Terrick, leaving Saturday afternoon and returning Sunday evening. If there’s a father-child combo who wants to share, could be an ideal fit. We’ll be camping/spotlighting on Saturday night and obviously attempting to look for mutant Black-shouldered Kites. Call me on 0405220830.

Regards,

Simon.

Winter locations

Hi All,

I’m planning taking a week off to go birding in July while the missus is away (hiking Kokoda).

Ideally I’m thinking a driving trip from Sydney, but could also fly somewhere if it’s worth it.

Currently thinking either:

1) Sydney – Fitzroy Falls – Barren Grounds – down as . . . → Read More: Winter locations

Letter-winged Kite at Terrick Terrick NP (Vic)

Yesterday Dan Ashdown and Owen Lishmund reported a Letter-winged kite at Terrick Terrick NP in Victoria (see Birdline below). Apparently it was with 6 Black-shouldered Kites. Question – is it unusual to have so many Black-shouldered Kites together? I don’t think I’ve seen more than a couple.

Hoping this bird is the first of many.

The Australan Bird Guide

Received my copy of the new CSIRO bird guide today. Very nice, with lots of illustrations of the various subspecies, etc. Also a compehensive coverage od vagrants.

Only a couple of complaints (we all can not be perfect). a) the distribution maps a bit small and the associated subspecies notations difficult to read (because of . . . → Read More: The Australan Bird Guide

Lynx Birds of the World

So agree with your conclusion, Phil. Looking at the spread of a genus illustrated across a page (or so) along with species maps is such an absorbing pleasure, the sheer brilliance of it !
