By Birding-Aus, on May 5th, 2017 The Buccaneer Archipeligo is north of Derby. Koolan and Cockatoo Islands might potentially have vagrants but you probably won’t be allowed access. They have Rose-crowned Fruit-dove and other nice birds. I doubt if you will visit them, but Adele Island and the Lacepede Islands (especially West) are other places.

By Birding-Aus, on May 4th, 2017 Hi all ? I’ll be spending a week in the Buccaneer Archipelago area off Cape Leveque/Broome WA, boating and exploring (very researched trip where fishing and being aware of Whirlpools etc)…is there any islands out there where I may see Vagrants or that I should visit? I figured I should keep my eyes open on . . . → Read More: Buccaneer Archipelago
By Birding-Aus, on May 3rd, 2017 I would second that, Bob. I spent 5 weeks there in 2014, on a soothing about trip, with birding secondary. Most of my time was spent in Pokhara. My great highlight was the Vulture Restaurant at Gawchowk, where a cow had obligingly recently died, and there were vultures aplenty. What I found amazing, was that . . . → Read More: Nepal – a great place for birds along with spectular scenery and interesting people – ADVERTISMENT

By Birding-Aus, on May 3rd, 2017 For those that missed it, the Sydney Morning Herald has an interesting write-up of some research on the urbanization of White Ibis in Sydney and a bonus video clip from the Planet Earth series (cough-cough). Both worth a look:

By Birding-Aus, on May 3rd, 2017 Over the years I have seen on Birding-Aus many reports on birding trips to various overseas countries but very few on Nepal. I have just returned from Nepal and I would rate it as one of the more interesting of the 50 odd countries I have birded in. By Birding-Aus, on May 2nd, 2017 Bizarre situation here, where folks in the UK and Japan have their copies of the new Field Guide, but here in Cairns and Kuranda we have a notification from Andrew Isles and Australia post that our books have been dispatched on April 28, but we can expect them on May 8! It looks like both species of swifts have departed our shores, with two sightings in China and a dozen in Taiwan, it appears they are well on their way to their breeding grounds.
My preliminary assessment of this season shows that average flock size is again down on last year, let . . . → Read More: Seasons Sightings of WTNT & FTS (Pacific Swift)
