Quails on the sea

My friend Sue rescued a Quail from the sea today 200m offshore in Brighton VIC. From her pics I reckon a juvenile Stubble Quail.

Any records of Quails on the sea?

Winter this winter in Tromsø

We have real winter this year in Tromsø

Tromsø, N. Norway, is far north (almost 70*N), but it is also close to the coast and the ‘warm’ North Atlantic Current, and especially in later years our winters have been characterized by regular influxes of mild Atlantic air, bringing rain, and often extremely slippery roads. . . . → Read More: Winter this winter in Tromsø

Sunshine Coast Wetlands

Hi all We’ll be visiting family on Sunshine Coast in April. Thought we’d do a bit of birding in area around Maroochy Airport after we land. Can anyone recommend some spots? Also will be staying in Mooloolah so any places around there would be good. Answer off line please. Thanks for your help. Chris

FW: Socioeconomic impact of vagrant Aleutian Terns in Australia

Hopefully the Aleutian terns are still around for the Great Backyard Bird Count during February 16-19 – it would be nice to get them on the Aus list.

Regards, Laurie.

Greenfinches

Thanks Steve. So obviously southern Victorian greenfinches are just a bit weird. Some greenfinches begin calling in January in the UK, apparently (which is obviously a very different place in the seasonal cycle). I wonder what happens in NZ.

cheers
