Hopefully the Aleutian terns are still around for the Great Backyard Bird Count during February 16-19 – it would be nice to get them on the Aus list. So obviously southern Victorian greenfinches are just a bit weird. Some greenfinches begin calling in January in the UK, apparently (which is obviously a very different place in the seasonal cycle).
