Channel-billed Cuckoo on King Island, Tasmania

A juvenile Channel-billed Cuckoo has been photographed on King Island, Tasmania, over the weekend. A vagrant, but last recording of this species in Tasmania was in 1905 and isn’t clear whether it was a live bird sighting or a specimen possibly from somewhere else. Mutton Birds

As a child in the early 60’s I used to see Mutton Birds flying south regularly just above the waves from the Back Beach of Fraser Island. But, I’ve often thought that for these migrants it would make more sense if they flew high with jet stream assist. Sent from my iPhone
