Volunteer for raptor migration count

Dear all,
Volunteer opportunity for raptorphiles and birders keen to see Asian
raptors.
———————————————————————————————

Thailand’s Flyway Foundation (TFF) is calling for volunteers to assist in
counting migrating raptors at Khao Dinsor, Chumphon Province, Thailand,
this coming autumn.

Khao Dinsor is located six hours south of Bangkok and is a world-renowned
raptor migration hotspot in South-East Asia, recording c.400,000 southbound
raptors each autumn. The period of count will be from 15 September to 15
November 2018.

Volunteers may choose the period they would like to stay but TFF recommends
a minimum stay of at least one week.

Volunteers will be charged 600 THB per day for accommodation and
transportation from the beachside accommodation to the counting site, Khao
Dinsor. Volunteers are expected to be physically fit as the count site is
accessed by a steep climb.

Volunteers should have their own binoculars and equipment. A long-lens
camera is recommended but is not necessary. Preference will be given to
those with previous experience in raptor counting (not necessarily in
Southeast Asia).

Volunteers will be accompanied by our competent field manager and will meet
and interact with Thai and other international volunteers.

In previous years, volunteers have enjoyed over 30 species of migratory
and resident raptors plus many other migrant and resident land birds. It is
a great opportunity to learn about and witness one of the finest natural
phenomena of South-East Asia.

Anyone interested in participating should contact Mr Khemthong
