Hi – The Tooth-billed Pigeon (Didunculus strigirostris) occurs on Samoa and is one of the most poorly known pigeons in the world. It appears to have a tiny global population and is threatened by forest conversion/loss and hunting etc. Rebecca Stirnemann’s recent email seeks funds to help conservation activities. If say 5% of birding-aus members contributed say $5-10 each, then they would presumably be able to buy a few transmitters: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/saving-the-last-manumea-samoa-s-little-dodo/x/3416483 thanks, Colin http://www.birdlife.org/datazone/speciesfactsheet.php?id=2757 To: birding-aus@birding-aus.org Subject: First baby manumea seen in 30 years From: Rebecca Stirnemann <rstirnemann@gmail.com> Date: Thu, 20 Feb 2014 13:53:40 +1100 Recently the first juvenile Manumea was found in over 30 years. Help us save this species. 1) make this video go viral by sharing it, or 2) read more about the project so far (picture of baby monumea attached) or 3) donate to the project as we are trying to raise enough to add transmitters to a few birds so we can find a nest and ultimately under take captive breeding! http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/saving-the-last-manumea-samoa-s-little-dodo/x/3416483 Story on the project and pics: http://news.mongabay.com/2014/0210-hance-little-dodo-drones.html — www.samoanbirds.com _______________________________________________ Birding-Aus mailing list Birding-Aus@birding-aus.org To change settings or unsubscribe visit: http://birding-aus.org/mailman/listinfo/birding-aus_birding-aus.org
