The document which Carl Clifford mentioned seems to me to be well thought out and certainly seems to me to be a good basis on which to formulate a code of ethics for bird watchers and bird photographers in Australia to follow. I particularly like the point “Use appropriate lenses to photograph wild animals. If an animal shows stress, move back and use a longer lens.”
Another, oft quoted, “birding code of conduct/ethics” can be see on the American Birding Association’s website at http://www.aba.org/about/ethics.html The ABA happily allows that document to be freely reproduced for distribution/dissemination but please read their simple requirements for acknowledgement before doing so.
I have a vague memory that at least one of the birdwatching clubs/associations/unions in Australia had a code of conduct/ethics displayed on their website but I have been unable to find it today. Perhaps someone could point me in the direction of such a web-page, if it exists, or perhaps the birdwatching association committees could consider producing and publically publishing such a document.
