Date: Monday, October 10, 2016

Location: In Casuarinas on the southern side of the Joyce Snadden Reserve at the end of The Minories, Port Adelaide. This reserve borders the Port River.

Collared Sparrowhawk (Accipiter cirrocephalus) (1) I regularly visit several small parks in the Pt Adelaide area and was looking among some Casuarinas for breeding activity when I heard several White-plumed Honeyeaters, Red Wattlebirds & Noisy Miners making a big fuss. I thought there might be a nest in the vicinity but, on closer examination, found a Collared Sparrowhawk perched in one of the trees. The other birds were trying to drive it away but it merely moved from tree to tree.

Date: Saturday, October 15, 2016

Location: Flinders Park

Rainbow Bee-eater (Merops ornatus) (3) Three birds stopping briefly in a flowering apple tree then moving north. Was alerted to their presence by their calling. On flying north they seemed to mingle with Welcome Swallows. Last seen near Grange Road about 200 m east of Findon Road.
