Birdline Tasmania Weekly Update

Birdline Tasmania Published sightings for the week ending 21 Sep 2014. Sun 21 Sep Azure Kingfisher (2) D’Entrecasteaux River Single bird initially seen perched on a dead branch overhanging the river. It disappeared for a while but then it, or a second bird, was seen flying to a perch on the other side of the river; at this point, the other bird called from the opposite bank (out of sight). Paul Brooks Wed 17 Sep Eastern Curlew Bonnington, Cambridge Seventeen birds roosting on marshes at Bonnington south of the Spit and Oyster sheds. Els Wakefield Double-banded Plover Bonnington, Cambridge One Double-banded Plover in breeding plumage and 33 Red-necked Stint along Spit. Els Wakefield Mon 15 Sep Scrubtit, Wedge-tailed Eagle Mt Field National Park Good views of 1x Scrubtit in the Wombat Moors alpine heathland ~1km from Lake Dobson. This seemed unusual habitat than the usual rainforest gullies. 1x Wedge-tailed Eagle seen flying over the Derwent River near New Norfolk enroute to Mt Field. Jon and Sarah Spicer-Bell Sun 14 Sep Swift Parrot Sisters Beach Couple of birds heard. Species not seen or heard by me in NW since Dec 2013 despite much Atlassing. Richard Ashby Wed 10 Sep Masked Owl Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery A single bird has been roosting during the day on the 10th, 11th and 12th September in a red gum beside the museum near the traffic lights on the junction of Macquarie and Argyle Steets.
