When unsubscribing from Balanagara you’re not actually unsubscribing from Birding-aus (the bulletin board), you’re unsubscribing from a personalised mailing list called ‘Birding-aus” created by someone at Balanagara Films as a way of raising revenue for ‘The Message of the Lyrebird’. The person who did this simply neeeded to collated an emailing list from those who subscribe to birding-aus.
It seems that Balanagara Films, like another commercial company (who have sent nearly 500 direct marketing emails to birding-aus), have recognized the potential to make money from target marketing (whehter directly to the list, or indirectly) birdwatchers who subscribe to Birding-aus.
That being said, Balanagara Films is a genuine project (and they may indeed make a good film), however the method of marketing is sneaking and commercially orientated. Let’s hope they don’t resort to bullying anyone who objects to there commerical marketing (both online and offline), like the other commerical company is doing to those who subscribe to Birding-aus.
