To get to the spot where the Stilt Sandpiper was seen on 14/01/11, go through the gate to the Spit and turn left. After a short distance the road turns right towards the spit. At this bend there is a gate to a track that continues north. This track was too wet to be driven yesterday. Walk along this track and the flooded paddock is on the left. After a considerable distance there is a short (2m long) ‘fence’ which is painted white and quite obvious. The bird was seen from this ‘fence’, looking across the flooded area to the opposite edge of the water. Frank Pierce (The ‘other Frank from Melbourne’)
