Warm thanks to everyone who has emailed! Just got the net this-afternoon. I will try to answer individually when I can, but we’re still in recovery mode.
In the meantime, just this note to let everyone know that we’re both safe and staying with kind friends in Helidon.
Abberton has suffered a bit of a blow – but it will repair itself with a little help from us. We don’t know yet when we will be able to return, not too long I hope.
I’ve just seen this footage shot by Channel 10 on the day of the flood.
The first 50 seconds or so are an overhead view of Abberton and the adjacent bridge, taken some time after the initial onslaught by which time the water level as seen in the video has already dropped by about 2 metres.
Again, thank you to those who have asked after us – we truly appreciate that you have been thinking of us, and will keep you posted on progress.
Meanwhile, at Abberton this-afternoon, while we were clearing mud from inside the house and hosing it off the verandah onto what was once lawn below, the birds were busy singing and courting and appeared not to have noticed a thing!
